Kristine                MAP

The capital of china during the Qin dyansty was Xianyang and the capitol of China during the warring state period wasThe warring state period had control of many different places if ancient china. The Qin dynasty is in control of one big section of it. There is more control in the Qin dynasty because in the warring state period there are many separate parts and in the Qin its just one big section. The difference between the Qin dyansty map and modern china is that modern china obviously has a much larger mass and has control of much more. There might  be more mountains in the Qin because there is more land so there is a chance that there are more mountains then in the warring state period.

Inventions.

One of the most famous in invention during the Qin dynasty is what we call today The Great Wall. Emperor Qin forced hundreds of people to work on the wall. This caused many deaths to occur. It was built between 220-206 BC. The purpose of the wall was to protect the empire against intrusions by the Xiongnu people from the north. During the Qin dynasty it was known as the long wall but later it became so large that they changed it to what we know today as the Great Wall. Another invention that was discovered around 1974 by farmers digging a well. It was the terracotta army that Qin built for his tomb. He wanted to be remembered as something big and his army to rest with him when he dies. Qin designed this army to look like every individual person in his army. Each one had different facial features. Construction of the Terracotta Army began in 221 BCE and ended in 209 BCE. Qin also forced people to work on this. Many people died during his dynasty but from it we have these great things that were made.

Religion/Culture.

During the Qin dynasty Legalism was most common. Legalism is very harsh teachings that include giving rewards and strict punishments. This was a very disliked way of teaching. Before Legalism there was Confucianism. But when the Qin dynasty started Emperor Qin ban all use of Confucianism. He ordered that all books and teachings were to be ban. That is what lead to the book burnings and scholars who did not hand in the books were buried alive. So during the dynasty many people were tortured by he teachings on legalism. And whoever did not follow the rules would have awful punishments like being boiled alive or having your hands cut of, even death

Editorial...

Emperor Qin has burnt hundreds of books and buried scholars. He established a new law that Confucius book are now ban. Also the teaching of it is ban. So in order to do that he had to burn all the books. Now there will be the teaching of Legalism and books on legalism.
People of the Qin dynasty will respect Emperor more when he gives them a choice instead of taking away what they believe in. Also just because somebody would like to study something other then legalism doesn't mean that he has the right to kill them or take those things they have to study with and destroy them. When Qin said he was going to get rid of the teachings of Confucianism he didn't say that he was going to destroy the books and kill the people that refused to hand them in.
Some people that have great respect for Qin might disagree with me and say that we must obey him and do what he asks. They might say this because they believe and support in the things that he does, i think the main reason that they do this is because they are afraid of what might happen if the disobey.  But the reason why my opinion is right is because this dynasty will be at more peace if he just gave people a choice in what to study.
So in my mind if Qin gave people their own choice there will be more peace and less lives loss. Less people wil be depressed and there wont be suicides because of all the worry.
The burning of a million pages.

Hundreds of books have just been burnt because of one ruler. Emperor Qin, who believes that Legalism is what we should be taught. Confucianism has now been banned. All books and teachings of it are no longer available. That is why Qin had decided to burn hundreds of books except those on Legalism were to be destroyed. Scholars that did not pass in their books were burried alive. Legalism  is the teaching tecnique of being strict and harsh. There are punishments and awards in Legalism. Most of the punishments are beyond what you can imagine.

We interviewed some people that were witnesses in what happened. Han Kan Rou is the first person we talked to. We asked him how he feels about Qin doing this and is he believes that Confucianism should be banned and Legalism should be taught. His response was " I always though Qin was doing the right things. He is a good ruler and I think that everybody should obey what he says and never disagree with him. The burning of the books was just to make sure that nobody will have access to these books. There is nothing wrong with that. And the burning of the scholars that refused was only because those people refused and disobeyed him. That was their fauly and they deserved it."

People obviously have different opinions. Most people would agree with what he did was wrong but some people like Han Kan Rou believe in the strict teachings of Legalism and obey everything that Qin says. The next  person we interviewed was King Rong You. This person has a very different opinion on Qin's decisions. She said "I strongly disagree with Qin's decisions to burn boos and bury alive people! No person should be buried alive for believing in something different. Qin had no right to just take important things from people. Those books were valuable to many people and they didn't deserve that. Especially when they refused to give him the book, they were just buried alive. No person has the right to do that and Qin is the one who should be punished for what he has done."

The book burning and burying of the scholars is over now and as long as all of you obey Qin hopefully our country will be back at peace
